Investigations in field and controled environment on factors limiting the producion of common bean were undertaken in 1996-99 in North Tunisia. Results show that low yield are due mostly to water deficiency and salinity, but also to the absence of nodulation. The supply of mineral N at flowering increased the yield. The observation of a diversity of lines show a group of promising material
