Offset papers of different origin but produced for the same purposes were investigated in respect of their wettability and sensibility to the wetting water. On the base of surface properties and water absorption influencing the printability parameters papers were put in order by rank correlation. It was established that the paper most suitable for offset printing has to have the parameters as follows: ash content: approx.20 percent; linting number: more than 1,5; surface strength: 16-18 Dennison number; abrasiveness: 3-6 mg lost of mass, measured on the Taber instrument; Bobb60 less or equal 25 g per squere meter; dinamic penetration: 0,5-0,6 s; IGT pick resistanceless or equal 7,0meter per s; sensivity to wettingwater: 5-15 percent
