Incidence of and severe losses caused by Septoria melissae Desm. were observed on cultivated lemon balm (Melissa officinalis L.) in 2000 and 2001 in various districts of Hungary. Occurence of the disease in the country was first recorded in 1907, but no detailed data can be found about it. The disease is present all over the country. The article discusses disease symptoms, aetiology, damage and characteristics of the pathogen in details.
