Picolinafen is a new herbicidal active ingredient issued from BASF AG research, belonging to the family of Aryloxypicolinamids. It inhibits the phytoene desaturase activity, an enzyme involved in the carotenoid biosynthesis. Picolinafen is safe for small grain cereal. Absorbed by shoot and roots, mobile in the plant, its field of activity in post-emergence include the major broadleaf weeds. When present in the target plant with a second herbicidal active ingredient, it develops interesting synergistic effects. Based on these properties, picolinafen will be an ideal partner for several readymix herbicides
