Corn populations with acid soil and downy mildew tolerance were selected from materials collected from CIMMYT [Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maiz y Trigo, Lisboa 27, Apdo. Postal 6-641, 06600, Mexico, D.F., Mexico], IPB [Institute of Plant Breeding, College, Laguna, Philippines], USM [University of Southern Mindanao, Kabacan, Cotabato, Philippines], CMU [Central Mindanao University, Musuan, Bukidnon, Philippines] and other sources. Ninety entries were selected from two sets consisting of 178 and 264 entries. Findings showed that all the entries were downy mildew resistant and acid soil tolerant. Of the ninety entries, five entries (entry no. 3, 39, 40, 99, 125) were promising. Stalk rot damage was also minimal in the given entries, thus, they are potential materials for stalk rot resistance
