Comparative efficacy of different insecticides against whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) and black thrips, Caliothrips indicus on mung bean, Vigna radiata L.

The present trails were laid out to determine the comparative efficacy of different insecticides against whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Genn) and black thrips, Caliothrips indices, on mungbean, Vigna radiata (L.). The insecticides used included Imicon 25WP @ 200 gm/acre, Pride 25 WP @ 600/acre, Taophos 25EC @ 250 ml/acre, and Digital 20EC @ 250 ml/acre. The experiment was conducted at the research' area of the Department of Agronomy, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, in a Randomized Complete Block design (RCBD). There were in all five treatments including control, leaving three repeats each. The various observations were recorded from each plot after 24, 48, 72 hours. And 1 week of each spray. Since, the insecticides were sprayed over the crop in two installments. The population of whitefly and thrips was counted early in the morning from 15 plants/plot selected at random. For this purpose, one leaf each from upper, middle find lower portion of the plant were observed till a count or 15 plants from each' treatment is completed. The data were analysed statistically following the Duncan's Multiple Range test. The results achieved, revealed that all the insecticides used gave significant reduction in population of test insect pests. On overall basis, the population of whitefly and thrips/leaf; against each treatment indicated that all the insecticides viz. Imicon 25WP @ 200 gm/acre, Pride 25 WP @ 600 gm/acre, Taophos 25EC 250 ml/acre and Digital 20EC @ 250 ml/acre gave satisfactory results as compared to the untreated check. But on numerical basis, highest population suppression was found with the application of Imicon 25WP (imidacloprid) @ 200 gm/acre. Thus, among these treatments Imicon 25WP (imidaclorpid) @ 200 gm/acre was found to be the most effective for the control of whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) and black thrips, Caliothrips indicus on mungbean, Vigna radiata (L.).
