Combined effect of salinity and industrial effluents on the growth of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh

The effect of salinity and industrial effluents, either alone or in combination was investigated on the growth of Eucalyptus camaldulensis. The industrial effluents significantly reduced the height, fresh and oven dry shoot weight and leaf area of the plants. The industrial effluents, at low (EC 2 dSm-1) and high (EC 20 dSm-1), levels of salinity produced plants with height of 42.2 cm and 20.6 cm and fresh weight from 14.1g/ plant to 5.8g/plant dry weight 2.24g/plant to 1.5g/plant, respectively. With increasing salinity there was a decreasing trend in leaf area also. Results of the present study show adverse affects of contaminated industrial effluents on the overall growth of Eucalyptus camaldulensis seedlings.
