Effect of fertilizer rates on growth and green fodder yield of maize

The study was carried out to see the effect of nitrogen levels on the fixed dose of phosphorus on the growth and green fodder yield of maize at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam during Kharif 1999. Nitrogen and Phosphorus levels were 75-46, 100-46, 125-46, 150-46 and 175-46 kg NP/ha and varieties tested were Neelum and Khalil. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with four replications having plot of 28 m2. Maximum plant height after 30 days was obtained in 150-46 and 125-46 kg NP/ha and lowest from 75.46 kg NP/ha. Variety Khalil recorded highest plant height compared to Neelum. Maximum plant height at harvesting was recorded under 125-46.0 NP/ha and lowest from 75-46 kg NP/ha. There is significant difference in fertilizer levels and addition of fertilizer did not bring about any significant increase in number of nodes/plant. Variety Neelum produced maximum 39375 kg/ha green fodder yield compared to Khalil 38393 kg/ha. In interaction 125-46 kg NP/ha x variety Neelum produced highest 43214 kg/ha. It is recommended that Neelum being the maximum yield producer may be cultivated.
