Effect of starvation regime on growth rate of Cirrhinus mrigala

The present study was carried out in laboratory controlled aquaria. At least a group of five fingerlings of mrigal were used in each experiment having a control and starvation groups of 15, 30 and 45 days. Prior to experimentation, the fish were acclimatized to laboratory environment. Standard procedures and protocols were used in these growth experiments. It was observed that starvation regime affected the specific growth rate significantly when expressed on weight or protein basis in mrigal. Condition factor decreased with increasing starvation time.
