Studies on water and feed intake by lactating sows

During 42 days of lactation the total water intake per sow was 754 l, and the total feed intake 189.2 kg. It follows that the average daily water intake was 17.9 l, and the average daily feed intake 4.50 kg/head. The results of reproductive performance were evaluated as very good, as the average number of the piglets born alive per litter was 11.87, and the average number of those reared to the age 42 days - 11.50. The average birth weight of piglets was 1.49 kg. Their weight at the age of 21 and 42 days amounted to 5.64 and 11.10 kg respectively
