An experiment was conducted to assess the suitability of two different methods of sward restoration for the optimization of macroelement levels in the sward. The experimental meadow dominated with honey grass was restored by oversowing and the results were compared to the effects of fertilization alone. The following species of legumes were introduced into the primary sward harrowed with a rigid harrow: birdsfoot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus L.), red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) and alfalfa (Medicago media L.). The presence legumes in the meadow sward resulted in higher phosphorus, potassium and sodium levels and improved the ratios of some elements
