Peripartum pathologies of the sow are numerous. Nevertheless, postpartm dysgalactia syndrome (PPDS) is probably, and by far, the most frequently observed. Consequences of these pathologies are related to piglets growth and mortality (litter-problem). Some of these "litter-problem" can be associated with clinically sick sows (such as the MMA syndrome). However, in most of the cases, these "litter-problem" are associated with clinically "normal" sows. These clinically "normal" sows are affected by lactation problem unfortunately poorly defined, hence the name "dysgalactia". Clinical approach to this syndrome has to take into account the physiology of the lactation, particularly during the postnatal period. PPDS is a multifactorial pathology and risk factors are still not well known. Some indicators, as the body temperature, have to be interpreted with caution, and this in the light of new knowledges
