Influence of irrigation and mulching with pine bark and nonwoven polypropylene in tree rows on yielding in apple-tree Elstar

The influence of irrigation and mulching with pine bark or nonwoven polypropylene in tree rows was estimated in Fruit Experimental Station belonging to Agricultural University of Wroclaw in 1993-98. Apple-trees Elstar cultivar were planted on M9 rootstock in density 7 407 tree per ha. The disadvantageous effect of irrigation in high density planning system was biennial bearing. Mulching with pine bark or nonwoven polypropylene did not influence the yield in comparison to apple trees planted in herbicide fallow. Both irrigation and different mulching created better conditions for vegetative growth, which caused the decrease of cropping level in high density planting system of apple-tree Elstar cv.
