Paper presented - on an example of existing water supply piping system for two communes - the conditions and requirements of actual standards of fire protection for rural settlements. After introducing in 1997 the new regulations it became evident that these new regulations cause enormous difficulties in designing and exploitation of water supply systems to realize their requirements on supplying the amounts of water for both, everyday living needs and fire protection demands
