Standardization of raw material and extract of artichoke (Cynara scolymus L.)

Total content of polyphenolic compounds expressed as chlorogenic acid was carried out by colorimetic method with Arnow's reagent. Reversed phase HPLC method was used for determination caffeoylquinic derivates calculated as chlorogenic acid, flavonids calculated as luteolin-7-O-glicoside in raw material samples and in addition cynarin in the sample of artichoke extract. A HPLC method was more specific and makes possible to determine two compound groups regarded as active substances. Therefore, HPLC method could be used for standardization a raw material and particularly in case of pharmaceutical preparations of artichoke
