This paper deals with the work of the Date Palm Research and Development Network during eight years (1994-2001) in the Arab countries. It covers the importance of dates in the life of the people as well as the local efforts spent in view to improve the culture of the date palm tree. Two phases of work were evaluated covering economic and social studies, and recommendations were drawn. Several publications were also issued.
