A capon is a male chicken that has undergone an operation involving the complete removal of the testes, thus inhibiting the production of the male sex hormone. Caponized birds in which development of masculine characteristics continues are known as slips. They results from failure to remove whole testes. The Styrian hen is an autochthonous chicken breed in Slovenia. Styrian capons were mentioned in year 1352 and again in the 17th and 18th century. They were famous because of their soft and delicious meat. Thirty-eight capons and slips of Styrian breed, partridge variation, were comprised in an experiment in order to compare their growth performance and carcass traits. Cockerels were caponized at nine weeks of age. They were fattened in poultry house with free range till thirty-three weeks of age. Final body weight of capons and slips were 2345g and 2359g, respectively. Capons had higher dressing percentages and fatness than slips.
