This article presents the results of research concentrated on the content of heavy metals in the sediment deposits (bed sediments) in Waterwork Reservoir Ruzin I, which is situated on the confluence of the Hnilec and Hornad rivers. The major part of the catchment area of these two rivers is located on the territory called central Spis, which is well-known from the historic times until these days by its intensive mining, raw material processing and metallurgic activities. The wastes generated during such activities are sources of heavy metals, which penetrate into the surface water and consequently into the sediment deposits. From the point of view of transfer and transformation of metal elements, the monitoring of this issue deserves a continuous attention
