Changes in the content od fusaric acid during fusarium oxysporum ontogenesis

The study of mycotoxin production, in our case of the fusaric acid, by isolates of Fusarium oxysporum, consists especially in presenting the basic information about pathogenicity and toxicity of the species. In studying the production efficiency of fungi the age of the culture representing physiological maturity is an important factor. The highest production of the toxin fusaric acid, 1800 to 1883 mg/cubic dm, was found mostly between 20th and 27th day of fungi cultivation, when the dry matter ceased to increase. The beginning of the fusaric acid production occurred in all cultures unambiguously on the 4th day. Among the media used for the production of fusaric acid, the composition of Czapek-Dox agar was more suitable than the Richard's medium. Higher concentration of fusaric acid in the substrate mycelium in comparison with the aerial mycelium suggests that the toxin is gradually accumulated in the substrate mycelium in accord with the increasing age of the culture
