[The importance of the Tertiary collection of Petar Pavlovic from the Natural History Museum in Belgrade]

The collection contains several hundred thousands speciments from various systematic groups (algae, foraminifers. anthozoans, annelides, ostracodes, brachiopodes, gastropodes, scaphopodes, bivalvians, echinides and bryozoans) and today is the most numerous and diverse collection in the Natural History Museum. Out of 143 new species described by Petar Pavlovic, 35 were determined and described during the years 1891, 1901 and 1903, when he was a young scientist. Besides the holotypes, it is necessary to point out that many rare species were found on the territory of Serbia (Lymnocardium grimmi, Lymnocardium danicici, Pinna broccki, Terebratula macrescens etc.). He has also brought a collection of molluscs from the vinicity of Vienna and Zagreb, where he was on a study. Certain species from this collection were not recorded for the territory of Serbia up to present (Planorbis sabljari, Planorbis rarinodosa, Melanosteira bogdanovi, Caspia inserta, Caspia dybowskii, Pyrgula malcevici).
