Wild irises around Sombor [Serbia, Serbia&Montenegro]

In the area of the town of Sombor (Serbia, Serbia&Montenegro) we have found three wild growing plants of the genus Iris: Iris pseudocorus L., Iris spuria L. and Iris variegata L. The first one, is wild spreaded, wellknown on this terrain and phytochemically studied. In December 2001, we've collected rhizomes of Iris spuria and Iris variegata and done histochemical analyses according to Ph. Jug. 4th and 5th procedures. Rhizome of Iris spuria gave positive reactions on: starch, proteins (tryptophanic and peptides), catechinic tannins, mucilage, monosaccharides and calcium oxalate. Positive reactions of Iris variegata rhizome were on: starch, proteins (tryptophanic), catechinic tannins, mucilage and calcium oxalate. Because of small and splity areas of occupancy, there is a risk that Iris spuria and Iris variegate are threatened on this terrain.
