Five parent wheat varieties were crossed, three of them were used as mother (Rescler, Car-3601 and Briocard) and two as father (Francuska and PKB-Prelivka) with the aim to create hybrids. Six sets (3x2) of parents (P1 and P2) and of wheat hybrids generations (F1, BC1, BC2 and F2) were produced for analysis. The parent varieties and the hybrids of the back cross generation BC1 differed very significantly in the number of productive tillers, whereas F2 hybrids differed significantly. On the basis of the average value for the number of productive tillers, it was apparent that in the hybrids of F1 and F2 generations this property would be prominent in case it was more prominent in parents. As far as the number of productive tillers was concerned it was determined that in the F1 generation it could be inherited by the partial dominance, dominance and super dominance, depending on the hybrid combination, while in the F2 generation super domination is prevalent. For this property in inheriting a significant role is played by the additive component of the genetic variance. An analysis of the ability to combine showed that the varieties Francuska and Rescler generally combined in the best way when targeting the number of productive tillers.
