Resistance studies of some weed species on triazines
2004
Meseldzija, M.
As in our country, since 1966 the mostly produced have been triazine herbicides on the basis of ametryn, simazine, atrazine and prometryn, possibility of resistance development in weed species Amaranthus retroflexus L. and Setaria viridis (L.). Beauv. to this herbicide group has been studied. Seed of weed species for which exist possibility of resistance have been collected from different localities in Vojvodina (Serbia&Montenegro), such as Backa Palanka, Backi Maglic and Becej. Studies were performed during 1999 and 2000 by methods of Moss (1995) and Clay&Underwood (1990). Simultaneously were performed whole plant studies in controlled conditions and in Petry dishes, treated by range of herbicide doses in order to get responsive curve. Values of resistance indices were evaluated in regard to susceptible referent population collected from ruderal site that was also included in bioassays. Due to the frequent triazine use and application of herbicides with the identical mode of action (i.e. inhibitors of photosynthesis) in the localities Becej, Backi Maglic and Backa Palanka, biotypes of weed species Amaranthus retroflexus L. and Setaria viridis (L.) Beauv. were less susceptible to atrazine field application.
