A CAD analysis of faults in railway wheels

The paper proposes a finite element analysis of faults and cracks in a wheel belonging to a railway vehicle. The analysis may be performed both two-dimensionally or three-dimensionally by using the non-linear module of a finite element software. In correlation with the state of stress at the top of a crack, some other fracture mechanics parameters may be estimated.
