Organic contaminants in DTD [Danube-Tisza-Danube] chanel [Serbia&Montenegro] sediments

DTD (Danube-Tisza-Danube) chanel located on the central Vojvodina (Serbia, Serbia&Montenegro) near the town Vrbas receives industrial and municipal wastewaters. In this study, sediments collected from 3 locations analyzed for pesticides, individual polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) congeners, and 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) to characterize their contamination level. Concentrations of PAHs in sediment ranged from 17.3 to 34.63 mg/kg on a dry weight basis. PCBs in sediment, which were predominated by the trichlorobiphenyl congeners, ranged from 194 to 972.5 microgram/kg dry wt. Concentrations of pesticies in sediment ranged from 400.34 to 1275 microgram/kg dry wt.
