Diesel fuel consumption and work quality were evaluated in a chisel tiller in relation to the depth of loosening. Low consumption of diesel fuel was recorded during loosening of compacted plot margins, because of big clods. Changing the depth of tillage from 0.25 to 0.45 m led to an increase of diesel fuel consumption from 14.9 to 19.2 L/ha. The tillage led to considerable changes of soil matter spatial distribution.
