[Analysis of the effect of backfat thickness changes during the reproductive cycle on sows perfomance]

The aim of this study was to establish the relationship between reproductive parameters (number of born piglets, number of weaned piglets) and production parameters (backfat thickness, musculus longissimus lumborum et thoracis, lean meat content) in sows. The whole Czech population of Czech Large White sows was analyzed during the years 2000 and 2001. The changes in backfat thickness during the reproductive cycle and their effect on sows fertility were also studied. No negative relationship between lean meat content and reproductive parameters was observed. The age at the first conception decreased with increasing backfat thickness.
