Substantial changes are going on in the sugar industry worldwide. One characteristic feature of the changes is the increasing share of production in the Caribbean, Middle- and South American territories and in the Far-East. This is accompanied by the increasing role of mass production, resulting in increasing plant capacities and in the use of high-level automation, which reflect the awereness of the increasing importance of productivity.
