Observation on plant's samples collected from different districts of West Bengal revealed occurrence of Meloidogyne incognita, M. javanica and M. graminicola associated with various crops and weed hosts. Among these, M. incognita was found predominantly attacking crops and weeds. M. javanica was found to attack on tomato, pea, cowpea, dhaincha (Sesbania aculeata), jute, parval (Trichosanthes dioica) whereas M. graminicola was recorded in rice, motha (Cyperus spp.), dhaincha, shyma grass (Eclrinochloa colomum) and cabbage. The occurrence of M. graminicola in cabbage was possibly a new host record. M. incognita collected from different districts of West Bengal revealed the occurrence of two races on the basis of differential hosts test. Populations from Nadia, 24-Pargona (North), Hooghly, Burdwan, Birbhum and Midnapore were identified as M. incognita race 2 whereas populations from Murshidabad, Malda and Coochbehar were designated as M. incognita race 3.
