Effect of nandrolone deconate on growth and biochemical constituents in female half bred (beetal x black bengal) kids

The administration of exogenous compounds like growth hormone, anabolic steroids (oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone), yeast cultures, biostimulants etc. were reported to enhance the growth of animals. Significant increase in body weight due to aministration of testosterones (synthetic or natural) was reported in different food of animals. The beneficial effect of anabolic steroids as growth promoters got undermined due to their residual effect on meat and milk. These steroids when adminitered as skin or ear implants exibit low biodegradability and thereby exert residual effects on body tissue, However, application of proper dose, route of administration, withdrawal at correct time before slaughtering the animal and selection of animal can curtail the residual problem to a great extent. Goats lack tendency to deposit subcutaneous fat particulary over groin region in comparison to other meat animals. This can be an added advantage in experimenting administration of anabolic steroids in goat because these steroids generally accumulate in adipose tissue. The present study was under taken to determine the effect of synthetic testosterone (Nandrolone Deconate-N.D.) on growth and some biochemical constituents like serum cholestrol, serum urea and serum protein in female half bred (B.T. x B.B.) kids.
