European breeds specially Jersey is being maintained in our country on some established farms. The main objective is to produce high potential young bulls and to study progenies efficiency under hot and arid climatic conditions with respect to traits of economic importance. The jerseys are expected to withstand better the tropical environment. If crossbred produced from Jersey bulls maintained under Indian condition exhibits same or better performance than those produced from imported semen then it will save precious foreign exchange. In order to draw and follow suitable selection and breeding plans it becomes necessary to evaluate Jersey animals for genetic and phenotypic advance. In males, selection is based on pedigree at initial stages of their life. Hence, evaluation of dams performance is necessary. In the present study an attempt has been made to register performance jersey cows under hot and dry condition and to evaluate traits of economic importance with respect to some environmental effects.
