Over 2000-2002, investigations on direct sowing winter rape germination, growth and yield formation monitoring were carried out in Lithuanian Agricultural University. Five variants of direct rape sowing were studied. Crops of sufficient density were obtained in the variants where rape was sown 5-10 days before harvesting. Yields in these variants made 3.26-3.39 t/ha when hay was gathered and 2.55-2.74 t/ha when hay was left on the studdle. In the variants where rape was sown after harvesting, the rape seed yield from the plots without hay made 2.94-2.51 t/ha, and from the plots with hay 1.07-1.93 t/ha
