In 1987-1997 experiments were conducted to determine the impact of flood water concentration on the yield of flood meadows and biogenic matter, soil agrochemical properties and the turnover of biogenic matter in flood soils. Tests were carried out on various types of soils in the lower Nemunas. The formation of alluvial soils depended on the hydrodinamic regimes of the floods in these areas. The largest amount of sand fractions low in organic matter quantity, but high in phosphorous content was deposited in the section hear the river bed. Moving away from the river bed the suspended sediments increase in organic part, but decrease in mineral part
