Screening corn breeding lines for resistance to Philippine corn downy mildew

Promising inbred lines, open-pollinated varieties, and hybrids of corn coming from CIMMYT and USM were screened to identify, select, and develop corn varieties resistant to Philippine corn downy mildew. Out of the 2,529 entries/lines tested, 746 were USM entries and 1.783 came from CIMMYT. It was noted that 1,471 entries/lines or 58.16% showed degree of resistance to the infection based on their reactions to the downy mildew disease. Plants showing intermediate reaction (459 or 17.80%) and susceptible (608 or 24.04%) response were also noted in the field
