Micronutrient status of soils of Latif Farm: Block - A [Pakistan]
2002
Ibupoto, Z.P.
Fifty soil samples from each soil depth of 0-15 cm and 15-30 cm were collected from Latif Farm at Block-A. The soil samples were analyzed for micronutrient status including some other physico-chemical properties such as texture. EC, pH, O.M. and lime. Majority of the soil samples of surface and sub- surface soils of the block-A were heavy in texture. Electrical conductivity at surface soil had average value of 0.394 dSm-1. While sub-soil had a 0.365 dSm-1. pH of soils of the block-A at surface had mean value of 8.09 where as at sub- surface average value was 8.06 at boor soil depths. Lime content of the block-A at 0-15 cm had mean value of 13.73% and at 15-30 cm soil depth it had 12.97%. Organic matter content of soil at 0-15 cm depth had mean value of 0.86%, where as at soil depth of 15-30 cm mean value was 0.74%. Cu content of surface soil had an average value of. 8.839 mg/kg. Where as at sub-surface soil it was 7.121 mg/kg. AB-DTPA extractable Fe content of surface soil had an average value of 20.276 mg/kg where as at sub-surface soil was 15.699. In Fe content it was apparent from the data that surface soils contained considerably higher qualities of this nutrient than the sub-surface soils. Mn content of surface soil had an average value of 12.774 mg/kg. Whereas at sub-surface it was 11.530 mg/kg. Zn content of surface soil had an average value of 0.615 mg/kg. Whereas at sub- surface it was 0.61496 mg/kg. Coefficient of correlation values for Cu exhibited positive non-significant relationship with sand, silt, EC, and CaCO3, negative non-significant with O.M, and pH. Whereas negative and significant relationship was observed with clay. Fe showed that AB-DTPA extractable Fe had positive, non-significant relationship with clay, pH and O.M, negative, non-significant with sand, silt EC, and CaCO3. Mn exhibited 96-positive, non-significant relationship with EC, pH and silt, and negative, non-significant with clay, O.M, and CaCO3 whereas negative and significant relationship was observed with sand. Zn showed that AB-DTPA extractable Zn had positive, non-significant relationship with sand, pH, O.M and CaCO3 and negative, non-significant with silt, and negative highly significant with EC, whereas positive, highly significant relationship was observed with clay. It is concluded that the soils of Latif Farm Block-A were clayey in texture, non-saline, moderately alkaline in reaction and moderately calcareous in nature. Organic matter content of both layers of soil were low. Therefore the addition of farm yard manure and green manuring are suggested to improve organic matter content of these soils. Copper, manganese and iron are already in excess however, the deficiency of Zn was noted in both layers of these soils. Therefore the application of Zn SO4 may be beneficial for improving crop yield in this areas.
