Genetics of cotton leaf curl virus disease in upland cotton

The inheritance of resistance to cotton leaf curl virus (CLCuV) was studied in F1, F2, BC1F1 and BC2F1 generations of cotton genotypes, viz., LRA- 5166. CP-15/2 (resistant parents) and CIM-243, Coker-310 (susceptible parents). The results indicated that resistance is controlled by single dominant gene with some other genetic factors (modifiers) involved in the inheritance of resistance to cotton leaf curl virus. Resistant parents LRA-5155 and CP-15/2 might have different sources of resistance conferring resistance to different strains of pathogen having two different dominant resistance genes. Reciprocal crosses in case of cotton leaf curl virus resistance suggested that only nuclear inheritance is involved and there was no role of any other factor like cytoplasmic genes in inheritance of resistance to cotton leaf curl virus.
