The effect of foliar spray of growth regulators on mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] cultivars, NM-51 and NM-92 was studied. The soil had pH value 7.71 saturation percentage 25 % and ECe 1.5 dSm-1 Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) at concentration of 50 mg L-1, 75 mg L-1, 100 mg L-1, and indole acetic acid (IAA) at concentration of 10 nag L-1, 20 mg L-1, 30 mg L-1, were sprayed once to 30 days old plants while plants with no applicant acted as control. The experiment was carried out in completely randomized design. It comprised of seven treatments, each replicated thrice. Irrigation and other agronomic practices were carried out according to the need of the crop. The data were collected for the purpose of growth analysis in five harvests at an interval of 7 days. Growth analysis indicated a trend of increase with increasing concentration of NAA and IAA. Growth parameters such as relative increase in plant height, relative increase in leaf area and relative growth rate (RGR) were increased with increasing concentration of NAA and IAA, as compared to non- treated plants. At maturity of crop plant height, fresh and dry weight of root and shoot, number of seeds/pod, number of pods/plant, 100-seed weight, grain yield and plant biomass were studied. All these parameters were found to be increased with increasing concentrations of growth regulators. Variety V2 (NM-92) gave 8.03 more grain yield than V1 (NM- 51). NAA exhibited an increase in grain yield from 86.5 % to 223.8 % over control plants and IAA presented 122.3 % to 224.5 % increase in grain yield over control at varying concentrations. Chlorophyll a, b and carotenoids were estimated at flowering stage of the crop. Concentration of chlorophyll a, b and carotenoids decreased with increasing concentration of growth regulators, while the photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance and transpiration rate increased with increasing the concentration of growth regulators. Variety V2 (NM-92) showed higher accumulation of chlorophyll a, b and carotenoids as compared to V1 (NM-51). Among the growth regulators IAA gave better results as compared to NAA. IAA at 30 mg L-1 gave the best results among its own levels. Variety V1 (NM-51) proved comparatively better than V2 (NM-92) and it is obvious from all other parameters also.
