Efficacy of some organophosphate, carbamate and pyrethroids insecticides against leaf webber/capsule borer, Antigastra catalaunalis Dup. (Pyralidae: Lepidoptera) on sesamum
2002
Aleem, M.
Present investigations were carried out to determine t efficacy of some organophosphate, carbamates and pyrethroids insecticides viz., Curacron (profenofos), Karate (cyhalothrin), Cypermethrin (cypermethrin), Talstar (bifenthrin), Sevin (carbaryl) and Monocrotophos (monocrotophos) for the control of Antigastra catalaunalis Dup. on sesamum. The trials were conducted in Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications. There were in all seven treatment applied twice. The observation on the basis of percentage infestation was recorded 24 hours before each treatment from five plants selected at-random from each plot and at 24, 48, 72 hours and seven days after each treatment. The results showed that the application of insecticides gave statistically significant control of Antigastra catalaunalis over the untreated check i.e., control. Percentage infestation was calculated from each treatment. Overall average percentage infestation of two sprays was 20.375, 5.649, 1.737, 3.908, 2.166 5.920 and 5.360 percent for T1 (control), T2 (profenofos), T3 (cyhalothrin), T4 (cypermethrin), T5 (bifenthrin), T6 (carbaryl) and T7 (Monocrotophos), respectively. The results of this experiment indicated that Karate was superior to the rest of the insecticides. This was followed by Talstar. Sevin gave least effect. As far as yield is concerned T3 (Karate) gave maximum yield followed by T5 (Talstar), T4 (Cypermethrin), T2 (Curacron), T6 (Sevin) and T7 (Monocrotophos). Overall results indicated that all the treatments gave yield as compared to the untreated check.
