Toxicity testing of pesticide (Chlorpyrifos) in fish

Cirrhinus mrigala of average weight 40 plus-minus 5 were used in this experiment. Chlorpyrifos with EC=40% was used it. The fish was collected from fish Hatchery, Faisalabad and stored at the Fisheries Research Farms, Department of Zoology and Fisheries, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. There eight doses of chlorpyrifos were tested and about 10 fish were placed in each aquarium and at the same time a control experiment was also run with the eight treatment. The dissolved oxygen in each aquarium was maintained and the effect of pesticide at different time intervals was noted and LC 50 value at 8, 12, 24 and 48 hrs was calculated by simple linear regression. LC 50 for 8, 12, 24 and 48 hr was 0.423, 0.194, 0.132 and 0.104 ppm, respectively. It was also observed that these parameters fluctuated day by day in control as well as in the treated aquaria. Then these physico-chemical parameters were also analyzed by applying 2 CRD and DMR. It was observed that EC. differ significantly between treatments, and intervals while pH, DO, and Cl- differ non significant.
