The aim of this study is to determine the similarities among 11 grapevine cultivars cultivated in Alentejo and 3 Vitis vinifera spp sylvestris (Gmel) Hegi populations, using ampelometric characteristics. Therefore, the cultivars and the wild populations were characterized using linear measurements of the adult leaf. The comparison of both Vitis vinefera subspecies was made using numerical taxonomy methods. The comparison between grapevine cultivars and wild plants showed that is possible to differenciate both using these ampelometric characteristics. This distinction is based on the leaf's shape and the size of the C lobe, consequently, the opening of the petiole sinus. It was verified that the cultivar Marufo presented more similarities with the wild plants that belong to the population of Castelo Branco than with the other grapevine cultivars. It is also possible to conclude that wild grapevines possess, in general, a wider petiole sinus and smaller leaves than the cultivars
