Main weeds of vineyards in Portugal

Weed surveys recorded from 1983 to 1988, in 679 vineyards in six Portuguese countries are analysed to relate the climatic characteristics, substrate diversity and main types of the soil management and weed control with the floristic composition, native and alien rate and form multiplicity. Earlier data collected in two regions, in 1966 (Ribatejo) and 1969 (Bombarral-Oeste), have been included to consider the evolution of the proportionality of plant life form types caused by increased chemical control. Agricultural importance and seasonal aspects concerning the main species of the 678 recognised are discussed
