This publication contains presentations made at the Expert Consultation on IPM for Orobanche in Food Legume Systems in the Near East and North Africa held in Rabat, Morocco, in April 2003. The papers cover a broad range of technologies for Orobanche control, identified by researchers in 10 countries of the region. These include identification and development of resistant varieties, use of pesticides, biological control, and agronomic practices. Hindrances to effective control of Orobanche discussed in the book include poor knowledge of the biology of Orobanche, poor understanding and application of joint learning activities to promote IPM, weak mechanisms to scale up and scale out proven options, inadequate partnerships at community level, and ineffective monitoring and evaluation systems. The book offers a broad range of recommendations that can help policy makers and researchers as they make decisions on controlling Orobanche to improve food production in the Near East and North Africa, and other areas affected by the weed
