Efficiency of some insecticides for controlling tobacco whitefly Bemisia tabaci and leaf miner Liriomyza trifolii on tomato

Three granular insecticides (fipronil 0.3 percent G, carbosulfan 5 percent G, and carbofuran 3 percent G) and ten foliage insecticides (bifenthrin 2.5 percent EC, fenpropathrin 10 percent EC, acephate 75 percent SP, pyriproxyfen 10 percent EC, fipronil 5 percent SC, imidacloprid 10 percent SL, carbosulfan 20 percent EC, methamidophos 60 percent SL, cypermethrin/phosalone 28.75 percent EC, and fungus Beaeuveria bassiana) were tested to control tobacco whitefly, Bemisia tabaci and leaf miner, Liriomyza trifolii on tomato (var. VF-134-1-2) at Hub-Kapong, Cha-Am District, Petchaburi Province during November-December, 1995. At 18 days after transplanting (DAT) occurrence of yellow leaf curl symptom on tomato plants were 5.0, 3.3 and 6.7 percent in treatments of the three granular insecticides, respectively, and 1.7-15.0 percent in foliage insecticide treatments. At 32 and 45 DAT, in plots of bifenthrin, imidacloprid, fenpropathrin, fipronil and cypermethrin/phosalone yellow leaf curl symptom were ranging from 21.7-40.0 percent and 36.7-56.7 percent, respectively, whereas the symptom in untreated plot appeared 65.0 and 91.7 percent, respectively. Two applications of bifenthrin, fipronil, fenpropathrin and acephate gave significant control of leaf miner compared to the other treatments.
