Relationships between biological characteristics and chromosomal ploidy in artemia from the coast of China

Chromosomal ploidy of the brine shrimp Artemia parthenogenetica from Tianjin and Hainan coasts, China, were found to be diploid, tetraploid, and pentaploid by the clonal culture method. The number of tetraploid brine shrimp was very small. Significant differences were found between the diploid and pentaploid brine shrimps in many facets of their life history. Other traits such as morphologic characteristics and the diameter of cysts were also significantly different.
