Results showed that the organic content, in term of mgCOD/litres, and volatile fatty acid content in the filtered liquor when using 20 g/litre tomato solid waste are higher than those of using 10 g/litre tomato solid waste, compared with the same temperature. At the longer solid retention time, the higher contents of organic compound and volatile fatty acid were found. The highest organic content is 1,324 mg COD/litre when using 20 g/litre tomato solid waste, 5-day SRT at room temperature. The highest organic destruction is 47.59 percent of total solid when using 20 g/litre tomato solid waste, 3-days SRT at room temperature. The highest acetic acid content is 2.9 mM when using 20 g/litre tomato solid waste, 3-day SRT at room temperature. The highest contents of propionic acid, butyric acid and valeric acid are 2.74, 2.83 and 3.39 mM when using 20 g/litre tomato solid waste, 5-day SRT at 37 deg C. The highest content of isobutyric acid is 3.15 mM when using 10 g/litre tomato solid waste, 3-day SRT at 37 deg C, pH of the filtered liquor is in the range of 5.42-5.83. The effect of the hydraulic retention time (HRT) on the methanogenic stage was studied. The results demonstrated that the amount of biogas, the efficiency of gas production, COD reduction and TVA reduction will increase when the HRT increases. The maximum efficiency of gas production is 0.6 litre/g COD added, the amount of biogas is 0.3 litre/day with the methane content in the combined gas between carbondioxide and methane of 61.28 when using 0.5 gCOD/day organic loading rate, 5-days HRT and the filtered liquor fermented at room temperature was used. The highest organic destruction in term of COD destruction in the methanogenic stage is 76.45 percent when the filtered liquor fermented at 37 deg C was used at 0.5 g COD/day organic loading rate and 5-days HRT.
