Research on conservation of plant genetic resource has been paid great attention in Vietnam since 90s of the 20th century. After upgrading and investing there has been a specialized center for this issue. As of year 2000, there were nearly 8,000 accessions of 70 annual grain crop species and 1,500 samples of 30 tuber crops conserved in gene Bank of which many varieties have been widely used in production.
