Research results of breeding blooded line and hybrid rice with high yielding potential and good grain quality during period of 1996-2000

With scope and objectives of S and T research theme entitled KHCN 08-01 set under the S and T program encoded as KHCN 08, during period of 1996-2000, the research theme was successful in releasing one rice variety as national variety, one as multilocational variety, one protocal for production of a male-sterile rice line and three multilocational testing protocols for F1 hybrid seeds production in North Vietnam. There have been 35 rice varieties used in implementing the theme recognised as national rice varieties and other 44 as multilocation testing ones. In coming years the objectives of the theme will be focussed on breeding for new rice varieties with high yield high grain quality, universal and stable resistance, and short growth duration.
