Effects of gibberellic acid (GA3) and thiamine on the reproduction an morphometrics of Meloidogyne javanica in three soil types on chickpea

Effects of gibberellic acid (GA3) and thiamine were studied as seed treatment on the growth of chickpea and the reproduction and morphometrics of Meloidogyne javanica in three soil types. A mixture of 3:1 clay:sand gave the best growth response of chickpea followed by a 2:2 and 1:3 clay:sand mixture. Seed treatment with gibberellic acid and thiamine significantly increased plant growth and chlorophyll content in different soil types. Gibberellic acid application resulted in greater growth and chlorophyll content in plants without nematodes, whereas thiamine increased growth and chlorophyll content in plants infected with nematodes. Combined use of gibberellic acid and thiamine proved better in increasing plant growth and chlorophyll content than their individual treatment on plants either inoculated or uninoculated with nematodes. Thiamine caused greater reduction in galling and nematode multiplication than gibberellic acid. All the morphometrics parameters of female nematodes except stylet length and stylet knob width showed reduction in size in gibberellic acid and thiamine treated plants. Soil type had no effect on the morphometrics of nematode females but nematode multiplication was greater in the 1:3 clay:sand and least in 3:11 clay:sand mixture.
