Results of the study showed that there were 226 dairy cattle farms located in three districs: Sanpathong, Sankamphang and Sansai. the majority of the respondents indicating that they had raising experiences of less than 5 years. All of them were small farms raising Holstein-Friesian crossbred cows, receiving artificial insemination service and infectious disease treatment provided by workers from the Livestock Department. More than eighty percent of the farms used milking machines while Para and Ruzi grasses were commonly used in these random areas. Because of a lack of knowledge in feeding and/or no assurance of quality of feed mixed by themseleves, concentrate feed produced by private companies was purchased entirely on credits from the Dairy Cooperatives. Now that lots of farmers needed to expand their farms together with other reasons indicated in the results of this study, it is suggested that new knowledge and technology should be disseminated to them via education channels of the government.
