Evaluation of agricultural plots according to their size

In geodetic practice there are three ways of soil classification: surveying, cadastre recording, and soil assessment in the process of land redistribution. Thereby, for each plot is determined the surface area belonging to a particular soil class. However, the agricultural production on these plots is determined not only by the plot size and soil class but the plot shape represents also a significant factor. In this work we consider the effect of the size and shape of the plot and the ratio of side dimensions of rectangular plots on the plot suitability for mechanical cultivation and the losses of arable area remaining as interplot strips because of the unfavourable plot shape. Also, an attempt is made to numerically quantify the size and shape of agricultural plots with the aim of their better evaluation in this respect.
